Last weekend we went to Hever Castle to watch the jousting. The castle was really impressive – more like a fortified house – but full of interesting antiques.
The jousting was cool – quite theatrical. The sword and axe fighting was staged and a bit corney.
I was just going through an updating a few things on my blog. I had accidentally removed Akismet, and accumulated a massive amount of comment spam in the last day or so. Anyway, I reinstalled and was going through cleaning out the spam comments, when I found a number of actual comments from human beings! Ones that I had completely ignored because I wasn’t updating my blog regularly. Anyway, if you left me a comment a few years ago, and I ignored it – please forgive me! I’ll try and be better at responding!
This year Helen and I are spending New Years with Toby and Gigi who are over from Geneva. Yesterday we went for a long walk – 17km – on the South Downs. It was a misty, windy day – not altogether pleasant! Afterwards we went out to dinner at Bus Stop, a Caribbean restaurant in Brighton. The food was absolutely delicious!
We bought some wild mushrooms from a store in St James Street today while we were out on our afternoon constitutional. There were some weird looking blue mushrooms there (although they look purple now). They look so colourful!
I decided to try and make raisin bread in the bread maker. It turned out really well! I used the standard wholemeal recipe, but with about 90% wholemeal flour instead of about 60%. I also added in 3 tablespoons of milk powder, some whey (strained off from home-made yoghurt), about 1.5 teaspoons of cinnamon and about 200g of sultanas.
It looks like my blog got hacked. I noticed that there were some weird posts related to an essay writing service, which I’ve now deleted. I’m not sure of the attack vector. I had a relatively weak password for my WordPress user, which could have been the entry point. I’ll have a look at the server this weekend and see what I find. At least it’s prompted me to do some work on improving the security on the server and to do some software upgrades. I need to set up the letsencrypt certificates as well.
Well, despite resolving to blog more, it’s been another long period between blog posts. It’s not like I haven’t been thinking deep thoughts, or pursuing interesting projects. It’s that I’ve been worried that my thoughts have been too nascent to post. It’s silly really. I should be using the “Lean Startup” philosophy of releasing early and often. Still, at least there’s a lot of room for improvement!
Well, it’s been a loooonnng time since my last blog entry. One of my resolutions for the new year was to do more blogging. Despite this, I haven’t blogged anything for the whole of January. OK, so this stops now. As of today I am starting to blog again. Even if it’s just a short and almost meaningless entry about how I’m going to start blogging again.
